Houston Food Bank

The Consular Corps of Houston recognizes that the Houston Food Bank is the largest food bank in the United States in size and distribution. They serve a network of more than 1,600 community partners in 18 southeast Texas counties, including

food pantries, soup kitchens, meal sites and shelters.

With their help, Houston is able to provide access to more than 143 million meals in recent years.

Food for Change (FFC) is an intervention strategy that aligns with the Houston Food Bank’s ambitious vision: a world that doesn’t need food banks. The work of Food for Change goes beyond emergency food assistance by addressing the root causes of hunger and therefore “shortening the line” at hunger relief charities. This includes strategically layering food assistance with other social services to help individuals achieve their life goals.

FFC partners with a collective of community organizations that provide enrollment-based

programming focused on two main areas: health initiatives and economic initiatives.

To truly elevate our neighbors and empower them while they experience food insecurity, the Houston Food Bank manages programs and advocates for policies that address its root causes: income instability, affordable housing and

healthcare access.  The collaboration with our extensive network of partners, strengthens communities across the region. Every action taken helps make a meaningful impact.
